About Us

Moriti oa Sechaba (MORITI) is a non profit making Organization that was registered in 2003 as a Trust and as a Private Voluntary Organization in 2015. The Organization focusses mainly Disaster Risk Reduction in relation to Climate Change, community and schools WASH programmes (Water, Sanitation, Health and Hygiene), Nutrition and Food Security. Cross cutting issues of Gender Based Violence and HIV and AIDS are mainstreamed into major activities. The Organisation is run by a Board of Directors and staff are led by the Executive Director. Staff comprise of the Executive Director, Programmes Manager, Finance & Admin Manager, M & E Officer, Field Officers and the Finance & Admin Assistant.

Our Work

Access to Water

MORITI improves access to water through drilling of new boreholes and rehabilitation of the dysfunctional ones. The Organization involves Government Stakeholders in WASH and facilitates capacity building of water care takers. MORITI participates in all commemorations associated with water provision, access and utilization.

Access to Sanitation

MORITI empowers local leadership, Village Health Workers and Village Sanitation Committees to be able to address sanitation issues at village level. Various trainings are held. The MOHCC participates in all these trainings.

Hygiene Promotion

Communities are taught on how to keep their surroundings clean and they participate in Community Health Clubs. Village Health Workers and Lead mothers- take charge of the daily routine.

Food Security

MORITI realises the trends in Climate Change and its effects on Food availability and to curb this, the organization promotes food availability through Nutrition gardens and the under-five feeding programmes.

Intervention

Trained the CHWs on using a salter scale so as to weigh the babies more accurately
Trained the CHWs on the use of the MUAC tapes on children 6-59months of age for early detection of acute malnutrition
Capacitated the CHWs on active search for malnutrition cases together with MOHCC nurses and nutritionist
Trained them on the Healthy Harvest and Four Star Diet Concept

Quicker detection of malnutrition cases
Improved appropriate use of MUAC and Salter scales
Improved knowledge in diversified diet for households and access to 4-star diets for under 5 children.
Increased participation of CHWs fostering improved child care and counselling at community level.
